With all the hype surrounding games such as GTA V, SC: Blacklist and Metal Gear we forget about some of the other games that have just as much depth and, sometimes, longer hours of gameplay which is definitely worth your money as opposed to a single player campaign game with levels and a limited multiplayer experience.
Total War: Rome II
Release date October 2013
A strategy and think before you act sort of a game. In multiplayer you have to use the Art of War this sounds cheesy but if you can cause your opponent to have doubts before the fighting begins, you've already won the war. Break his morale as you counter attack then chase his troops off the battlefield. Rome 2 is designed in such a way that psychological warfare is just as important as units have emotions, which you can manipulate through your actions. A perfect example of this is if the opponent uses a few units to flank your army as he directly attacks you but you were to use a few defensive troops to hold off the direct attack and go all out with your main force on the flanking troop, then the flanking troop at this point are wetting themselves in fear. They'll either fight poorly or retreat in fear.
Sniper Ghost Warrior 2
Release date 12th of March 2013
The game is incredibly challenging and frustrating at times but the frustration is good because you don't want to complete the game quickly, it's best to find alternatives and problem solve your way towards the objective. Like V2 Sniper Elite
, Sniper Ghost Warriors realistic sniping system involved calculating your shot against the wind, your heartbeat (which is determined by your actions i.e running) and gravity. Stealth and strategy go hand in hand with this little beauty. So if you're patient, a problem solver and enjoy stealth then this'll be the one to look at.
Watch Dogs
Any game Ubisoft has developed has been outstanding (especially the Tom Clancy series) and Watch Dogs will be no exception. This game looks so good even GTA V fanboys have to water it down as it shares similarities in terms of a violent open world shooter. The demo on YouTube looks interesting. As a player you can use your jailbroken smartphone to interact and hack the technology around you. At one point the player hacks the traffic lights at a crossroad and turns them all green which causes cars colliding into each other. I'm guessing you can use these collisions as a distraction or as cover but in this case the players target was involved in the collisions which resulted in him getting out of the car and making himself an easy target. The jailbroken smartphone can tell you the probability that someone is about to commit a crime.
